SUMMER UNDER THE STARS: MARILYN MONROE

It’s that time again!  TCM presents their 14th(!) annual Summer Under the Stars festival. Every day this August, a single star’s will be featured with some of their best-known films, plus a few lesser-known.  First up, the one and only Marilyn Monroe.

TCM will show 12 of her films including one TCM premiere, 1951’s Love Nest.  She did more than stand on a subway grate and sing to JFK!

Now to my picks.

Mariah’s Picks

The Asphalt Jungle (9:30 am/8:30 c)

Marilyn has a small role as the mistress of a corrupt lawyer who finances an elaborate jewel heist.

Some Like It Hot (11:30 am/10:30 c)

Yes, I believe you can see part of Marilyn’s boobs.  Alas, you can’t see two men dressed as women in the background.

Bus Stop (6 pm/5 pm c)

Marilyn is a small-time singer/dancer who is kidnapped by a love-struck rodeo cowboy.

The Seven Year-Itch (8 pm/7 pm c)

This is the movie where her famous white dress is blown up by standing on a subway grate.  The leading man, Tom Ewell is from my hometown of Owensboro, KY.

How to Marry a Millionaire (2 am/1 am c)

Marilyn is one of three models (the other two played by Lauren Bacall and Betty Grable) who are on the hunt for rich husbands.
